Hekate's Mirror

(Silver clasp made of twin serpents, surrounding black onyx. Triple moon symbol on the base holds a torch)

As her younger self (Persephone) Hekate descended into the underworld to find the path so that others could follow and find their true selves when they looked into her mirror. This is commemorated in this piece, by the black onyx background representing the underworld, and the torch set before it.  The waxing and waning representing the triple aspect of hekate hold the torch symbolically in place, while the twin serpents of inner knowledge surround the ‘mirror’ itself.

Aphrodite's Egg

(Silver clasp in seaweed pattern, surrounding Blue Chalcedony or Rose Quartz. Shell bottom right, and Dove top left are mounted on the clasp.  Two seed pearls and an opal are set in the clasp).

While traditional Greek myths say that Aphrodite was born from the foamy sea, the writer Hyginus said that Aphrodite was born from an egg which fell from the sky into the sea. Doves kept it warm and when the egg hatched Aphrodite emerged from it.  This pieces of jewellery dedicated to Aphrodite, takes the shape of that egg symbolised by a piece of Blue Chalcedony (the sea) or Rose Quartz (the egg itself).  A sea shell represent her merging from the sea as Venus in the Roman myth, while the dove of peace and love sits above the stone.

Freya's Charm

(Bind rune consisting of the Feoh rune and the Eihaz the rune of protection. In the centre is a piece of amber set in a primrose, eight of which also surround the Bind rune in a ring).

Freya is traditionally the goddess of love and beauty in Norse Mythology, but she is also the Goddess of Fertility and the year. In this piece her traditional rune, Feoh, representing wealth and fertility is combined with Eihaz the rune of protection, to form the traditional  cross bind rune of protection for the wearer. The four Eihaz runes form a protections against the elements at each quarter of Ice, Air, Fire and Water. The four Feoh runes circle clockwise in the traditional charm of Freya: ‘ Flag (shelter), Flax (clothing), Fodder (food) and Frig (love).  In the centre is set a piece of amber in a primrose; the traditional gem of Freya, and the flower of spring associated with her. Eight primroses also surround the bind rune in a ring, representing the eight festivals and the wheel of the year.

Mjollinir and Jormungand

(Thors Hammer with Garnet set in the centre of the Hammer, surrounded by serpent)

This piece commemorates an important story in Norse Mythology, where Thor goes fishing with Hymir and hooks the Jormungand, world serpent.  Jormungand represents the boundaries of the known world, and the dangers that lie beyone. Thors Hammer, Mollijnir was traditionally worn for protection by both the Vikings and the Saxons, it is fitting then that it should be surrounded by that which it is worn to conquer; fear.

The red garnet in the centre of the Hammer represents Thor himself, the god of the myth. He was red in hair and in temperament.

Staff of Aesculapius

(Silver staff with coiled serpent around it. Herkimer Diamond in top of Staff, Peridot in centre of staff, and Garnet at bottom)

It is said that Aesculapius’s Staff was given to him by Chiron the Centaur; possibly a memory of the horse peoples of western Asia passing their knowledge of healing on to the Greeks.  We mark this in this piece of Jewellery with three gems marking the most important Chakras for a healer.  A Herkimer Diamond, a gem of light and spirit, represents the Crown Centre at the top of the staff.  In the centre is a Peridot, a green gem representing the Heart Centre and the ‘unconditional love’ that is necessary to a successful energy healer. Finally at the bottom of the staff is a Garnet, representing the Root Centre, the centre of grounding and cleansing.

Cho Ku Rei (Level 1 Symbol)

(Silver rhomboid Ingot 1 –2 mm thick, with raised Cho Ku Rei symbol in sharp relief. Rest of ingot is textured to heighten this relief.  A Peridot is set in the centre.)

The Cho Ku Rei is the power symbol of Reiki and students are traditionally attuned to its use at Level 1, although they do not fully enable its use until their Level 2 training.  Its literal meaning is ‘power of the universe come to me now’. This symbol represents the flow of energy into the physically body, and with this in mind we have set a Perido in the Centre to represent the Heart Chakra, through which all energy must pass in the physical body during the act of healing.

Sei Hei Ki  (Level 2 Symbol)

(Silver rhomboid ingot 1 – 2 mm thick, with raised Sei Hei Ki symbol in sharp relief. Rest of ingot is textured to heighten this relief. An Amethyst is set above the symbol.)

Literal meaning of this symbol is harmony or ‘let the mind be still’.  Students of Reiki are attuned to this symbol at Level 2 of their training.  It is used for purification, cleansing and protection, by directing energy to the emotional body and subconscious mind.  With this in mind we have set an Amethyst above it;  the purple gem traditionally associated with the Brow Chakra to enhance the symbols power.

Dai Ko Myo (Level 3/Master Symbol)

(Silver rhomboid ingot 1 – 2 mm thick, with raised Dai Ko Myo symbol in sharp relief. Rest of ingot is textured to heighten this relief. A Herkimer Diamond is set above the symbol.)

This is the ‘Master Teacher Symbol’ the literal translation of Dai Ko Myo (or Dai Ko Mio) being ‘Great Shining Light’.  It is attained at the 3rd level or master level of training in Reiki practise.  This symbol is used both for attunement and healing, and works of the Akashic or Spiritual Body level – the healing of the soul.  For this reason we have set a gem to represent the Crown Chakra,  the Spiritual Body, and ‘the Great Shining Light’; a Herkimer Diamond.
